Update: Violent sex offender wanted Canada-wide caught near Vancouver police station

Johnny Walkus has been apprehended by police.

A day after he failed to show up at a halfway house, police have him in custody again.

"Walkus was spotted this afternoon by officers on patrol near Cambie Street and West Broadway. He was arrested without incident," states a police press release.

The VPD headquarters are at 2120 Cambie St.

A man considered a "high risk and violent sex offender" by police is wanted Canada-wide after failing to check in at a Vancouver halfway house.

Johnny Walkus, now 36, was released on Feb. 6 from the Matsqui Institution in Abbotsford, according to a Vancouver Police Department press release. After his release, he was supposed to check in at a halfway house in Vancouver; he hasn't been seen since his release.

"Walkus is serving a sentence for two counts of sexual assault, and one count each of break and enter with intent and utter threat to cause death/harm," states the VPD.

According to court records, Walkus has previously been charged and convicted of multiple counts of breach of probation, along with theft over $5,000, robbery, and assault.
