Mark Caulton, drummer for Squamish rock quartet The Bushwackers, said he might be a bit nervous about his band's Saturday (April 2) night performance at the Brackendale Art Gallery (BAG).
"That's a place where greats like Barney Bentall play," said the 52-year-old Caulton.
For The Bushwackers, it'll only be their second gig.
"We've only played once before publically," he said. "That was at the Cliffside Pub for a fundraiser."
Caulton said it seemed to go well.
"Everyone seemed to have a good time," he said. "Nobody threw tomatoes."
The Bushwackers play a mix of mostly rock covers and some originals from vocalist and lead guitarist Alan Dupuis.
"We play covers of artists like Tragically Hip, Pink Floyd, Stevie Wonder and others," he said. "We want to play stuff that people can dance to, but also music that's different and a bit off the beaten path. That's why we're called The Bushwackers."
Rounding out the quartet is Randy Marohn on rhythm guitar and vocals, and Mike Zerabeski on bass.
Caulton said the band got together two years ago just as friends who like to play together.
"We all met through small-town networking," he said. "Alan (Dupuis) got us all together. We're just weekend warriors. We're buddies who like to get together on the weekend and play music we love."
The Bushwackers play the BAG as part of a new initiative to feature more local music and entertainment at the venue the first Saturday of each month.
"Thor (Froslev - owner of BAG) has a great new program here," he said. "It's such a great opportunity for a bunch of guys like us to play in a venue like that."
Catch The Bushwackers and support local performers on Saturday (April 2) at the BAG at 8 p.m.
Tickets are $10 at the door.
