Mixing talents together

The Brackendale Art Gallery is a little place that hosts some big talent within its wooden walls.

The Brackendale Art Gallery is a little place that hosts some big talent within its wooden walls.

This Saturday, the walls of the BAG will be bursting with some special local talent, as accomplished musicians Kori Rowe and Laurence Dinwoodie hit the stage with their eclectic brand of contemporary music. While both Kori and Laurence each have released new CDs, they will be collaborating their diverse musical backgrounds with a successful duo project called "Kori plus Laurence".

"It's a celebration," said Thor Froslev, the man responsible for bringing the pair to the gallery. "We're really looking forward to hearing our local musicians at their best."

Right now, the two musicians definitely are at their best.

Laurence Dinwoodie, who was born and raised in Squamish, has recently released a solo CD titled A Story Without Words. The guitar-based instrumental album features strong rhythmic and melodic influences from a diversity of cultures such as Spain, Northern Africa, South America and Cuba.

Kori Rowe has also recently released a new album called Brighter Side. The album is a dynamic blend of smooth ballads and mid-tempo pop. All of the tracks on the CD, which is filled with tasty instrumentation, were written, arranged and performed by Kori.

Kori's singer/songwriter style mixes nicely with Laurence's ethnic rhythmic instrumental guitar.

"It's always very exciting when artists get together - especially when they're local," said Froslev. "It's quite a milestone in a musician's life when they release a CD. People don't really understand what it takes to be an artist in all its different facets and the amount of work put into perfecting their craft - it's amazing."

The Kori plus Laurence show is a one-night only affair, set for Saturday (Sept.25) at 8 p.m.
