The Five-Year Engagement delights

Recent years have seen an explosion of quality romantic comedies and that is in no small part due to the mighty Judd Apatow. Quite often the Apatow name is closely followed by that of Jason Segel, this time as co-writer and co-star of the show.

The plot of The Five-Year Engagement is pretty much summed up in the title. Jason and Emily Blunt are a likeable couple and they get engaged. Then career choices/life happen and things get put off. The main line is that Blunt's academic career takes off, leaving Segel to quit his San Fran chef's career and move to Michigan. This leads to relationship stress and lots of time with friends. Thankfully the friends are pretty much a who's who of awesome, from Brian Posehn and Mindy Kaling to Kevin Hart, Alison Brie and Chris Parnell it's star-studded comedy goodness. The run time is more than two hours but it's definitely one to keep on your list considering we are quickly approaching snuggle season.

Now, technically it was released two weeks ago but I assure you our second selection is quality and exception-worthy. Indonesian marital arts movie The Raid: Redemption is pretty much the most unrelenting fighting action movie you've ever seen. Basically you have a group of rookie cops trying to take down a heavily fortified gagster apartment building. Yes, there are subtitles but this is not a movie of talking, this is a rapid-fire film of creative bloody killing with bullets, knives, and human noodle Iko Uwais busting out pencak silat moves. If this is your cup of tea, rest assured that it simply does not get better than this

Both films are available at Highland Video, one of the best/last video stores on the planet.
