The Dilemma
Director: Ron Howard
Cast: Vince Vaughn, Kevin James, Winona Ryder
Rated: PG
Running time: 118 minutes
Let's not waste any time, shall we? If you are planning on seeing this film, your enjoyment will depend entirely on your Vince Vaughn tolerance index. Mine isn't particularly strong and therefore I found this entire thing an exercise in patience rather than pleasure.
Ron Howard capably directs this romantic comedy that isn't really that funny. Sure, there are some funny bits but most of the time is spent in unstable psychodrama territory.
Vince and Kevin James play two best friends who just scored a huge opportunity to make an electric muscle car for Dodge. Now the clock is ticking to make it work. Meanwhile, Vince is in the process of proposing to his girlfriend when he sees his best buddy's wife (Winona Ryder) cheating with another man. Enter "the dilemma." Should Vince tell his buddy his wife is cheating on him while he's working on the biggest deal of his life, with the stress causing serious bleeding ulcers?
Well, I hope you have two hours to waste finding out, as Vince is a train wreck talking a million miles a minute and annoying everyone who, as I said at the top, does not have a high tolerance for his brand of existence.
In the end, this film is good in that Winona Ryder is still finding work and Kevin James is always pleasant. If you don't have enough drama in your life and want to see Vince spaz out for two hours in a friend's crumbling relationship scenario, you have found the perfect film. If not, you'd be best to avoid this.
