Alleged Burnaby mall spitter among six fined for COVID violations in March: RCMP update

A video posted on Reddit captured an alleged spitting incident at the Metrotown mall McDonald's last month.

Police handed out hefty fines in March to partiers and folks refusing to wear masks including a North Vancouver man who allegedly spat at a construction worker who confronted him in line at a Metrotown mall MacDonald’s on March 22.

A of that incident was posted online, and Burnaby RCMP said it was looking into assault charges against the North Vancouver man.

The detachment is releasing monthly  about its enforcement actions through the COVID-19 pandemic.

In March, officers responded to a total of 40 complaints, issued six tickets and conducted numerous proactive restaurant, lounge and business checks, according to the most recent update.

Four $2,300 fines were issued to the hosts of parties violating the Emergency Program Act, and two $230 tickets were handed out in separate incidents to men who refused to wear masks at local businesses.

One of those men was the alleged Metrotown spitter, according to Burnaby RCMP.
