Jared Young is now a St. Louis Cardinal.
The Cardinals announced Monday they picked up the 28-year-old Prince George native on waivers from the Chicago Cubs and have added him to the 40-player roster.
In 16 games this past season with the Cubs, Young hit .186 with two home runs, three triples and eight runs batted in.
Young, an infielder/outfielder, was drafted by Chicago in 2017 from Old Dominion University in Virginia.
In six minor league seasons, he compiled a .269 batting average (538 for 2,007), including 69 home runs. 98 doubles and 15 triples for 319 RBI.
In 310 at-bats in 2023 with the triple-A Iowa Cubs, he hit .310 with 21 home runs, 72 RBI, stole seven bases and a .994 OPS (on-base plus slugging average).
The Cardinals make their spring training home in Jupiter, Fla.
