Surrey Police Service investigating police-involved shooting

During an altercation, a SPOSU member discharged their service firearm.

Surrey Police Service (SPS) Frontline Investigative Support Unit members are investigating a shooting involving RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit (SPOSU) members that occurred near 120 Street and 64 Avenue, Surrey.

According to a news release, on March 11 at approximately 4:40 p.m., RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit (SPOSU) officers were in the area of 120 Street and 64 Avenue in Surrey on an unrelated investigation when SPOSU officers had an altercation with an unknown man after he allegedly attempted to steal from the officers.

During that altercation, a SPOSU member discharged their service firearm.

No SPOSU members or members of the public were injured and SPS’s Frontline Investigative Support Unit (FLIS) is leading the investigation into the incident.

The man was arrested, is currently being held in custody.

 SPS said an update will be provided when additional details are available.
