People are praising the actions of a construction worker during a heated confrontation in Burnaby’s Metropolis at Metrotown Mall on Monday.
The video, originally posted to r/PublicFreakout on Reddit, starts with a group of three men waiting in line at a McDonald’s inside the mall. Two construction workers, both with masks on, stand behind another man who is not wearing a face covering. Six seconds into the video, the unmasked man gestures with his head towards the construction worker on his left. The construction worker reacts and appears to strike the unmasked man.
The two men fly into a heated exchange and a nearby woman, who is holding the hand of a small child, tells them to “stop behaving like children.” The unmasked man then approaches the woman and the same construction worker steps between them and demands that the man gets out of the building.

At around this time, a security guard comes running into the frame and guides the unmasked man closer to the door.
Now at the door, the unmasked man appears to explain his case to the security guard but the construction worker overhears him.
“So you spit in my face you f****ing a**hole?” the construction worker yells back at him having returned to the McDonald’s entrance.
The man walks back toward the construction worker and tells him he would urinate on his face and launches into a tirade of insults including a homophobic slur. Eventually, the security guard escorts the unmasked man out of the building.
Reddit user Pop34520 writes, “Props for the construction workers stepping in when the anti masker was going at it with that woman,” they wrote of the altercation. “She was in a very precarious situation with her toddler.”
TitiaG, another Redditor who commented on the video, indicated she was at the mall the same day the video was taken.
“Unfortunately there are people in the mall without masks and in my workplace everyday. And yes they are usually aggressive about it,” they wrote.
