The founders of Vancouver's Vessi footwear understand rainy weather, which is why their shoes are completely waterproof.

AccuWeather has released its 2021-2022 for Canada, and it calls for far more rain than usual in southern British Columbia.

"Based on what I see, I think this winter will be wetter than the past five winters in southern British Columbia," states longtime AccuWeather expert meteorologist Brett Anderson.

The climatological phenomenon known as La Niña is present far out in the Pacific Ocean again this year. As Anderson can attest, with his decades of Canadian forecasting experience, it is sure to play a key role in the overall weather pattern this coming winter.

While it looks to be a rainy one, that doesn't mean you need to stay inside for the next few months. We've gathered some helpful tips from local footwear company, . If anyone understands rainy weather, it's Vessi. Back in 2018, the three founders set out to create a totally waterproof sneaker that not only kept your socks dry but kept your feet sweat-free, comfortable, looking stylish, and that was good to the earth.

Here's what to consider when going out in the rain:

Consider the activity

When considering the best attire, you have to think about what type of activities you'll be getting into. If you're going to be in the field working with cattle versus heading out on a hike, you will need to dress appropriately for the activity. Consider the ground you'll be walking on, the weight of your footwear and how much support you'll need. Think about how mobile you'll need to be and how long you'll be out in the elements.

If you're going to be combining several different activities, your best bet is a versatile shoe, such as the . You can work in them, hike in them, and even go out to dinner in them.

A good , a waterproof jacket and even can make the entire experience much more enjoyable.

Consider the amount of rain

The main difference between waterproof footwear and water-resistant ones is that the waterproof ones are ideally unaffected by water. In comparison, water-resistant ones resist moisture to a certain level.

Water-resistant footwear can be worn outdoors in mild to moderate rainfall and, sometimes, light snowfall. They usually have thick rubber soles and leather, faux leather, suede, or canvas uppers, treated to repel water and prevent water penetration.

On the other hand, waterproof shoes, such as , can be completely submerged into the water without it getting inside. The breathable fabric means that they can be worn as easily on a sunny day as they can hold up in a torrential downpour.

Get yourself in the right mindset

Don't let a bit of rain dampen your day. Vancouver experiences up to 200 days of rain per year, which means that more than half of the time, you're going to experience at least some precipitation. Get out there anyway. Turn a rainy day into an outdoor party. Pack up your waterproof headphones, a thermos of your favourite warm beverage, the right and outerwear and, most importantly, a positive attitude. Then head out to Stanley Park, or the North Shore trails, or maybe some retail therapy with a shopping day along Robson or Commercial.
