A Vancouver Provincial Court judge has banned a man from having rocks or bricks on transit after he pleaded guilty to three charges of mischief involving transit and business windows.
Daniel Ferguson, 38, appeared by video before Judge Dawn Boblin who sentenced him to 17 days jail and 18 months credit for time served in custody. Ferguson also received 12 months of probation.
Crown prosecutor Michael Fox told the judge that Ferguson had smashed a business' window at Ontario St. and West 5th Ave. in Vancouver. The Jan. 30, 2024, incident resulted in a charge of mischief over $5,000.
Fox said the man had also thrown an object through a window at Patterson SkyTrain station April 23 resulting in $6,000 damage, resulting in another mischief charge over $5,000.
And in a third charge, Ferguson smashed property at the Joyce-Collingwood SkyTrain station on April 2 causing $20,000 damage.
“The values are significant,” Fox said.
The prosecutor suggested 35 days jail less the time served.
“That will get him home by Christmas Eve,” Fox said.
