A 46-year-old woman died Wednesday morning when the Dodge Caravan she was driving crashed into the front porch of a house on Rogers Avenue.
Saanich police said the driver experienced a “significant medical event” that caused the crash.
Police responded about 8:45 a.m., along with other first responders. It was determined the van had hit the porch at a relatively low speed.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said passengers in the van and the residents of the home did not appear to have any physical injuries.
A woman who lives in the house said she had just left to drop her children off at school when she got a call about the crash. When she returned home, the minivan was in her driveway and the street was full of emergency vehicles. The woman declined to give her name.
A post on the porch was knocked down by the crash. On the other side of the residential street, a toppled road sign lay on a neighbour’s lawn and a house was splattered with mud.
Neighbours said they heard a thud and then children calling for help. Bystanders ran to help the woman, who was struggling to breathe, a neighbour said.
Police said they are assisting the СƵ Coroners Service in an investigation.
