"A strengthening ridge of high pressure will bring increasing temperatures to the south coast later this week," the alert states.
This week will be increasingly warmer, with the hottest from Thursday (July 29) to Saturday.
The highest temperatures are expected in the Sea to Sky, the Fraser Valley, and inland on Vancouver Island.
Heat illness can occur.
Squamish is set to hit 30°C on Wednesday, 29°C on Thursday, 30°C on Friday and 29°C, .
Nighttime temperatures will be in the teens.
Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps. fainting, heat exhaustion, heatstroke and the worsening of some health conditions, warns Environment Canada.
"The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors."
Note that a heatwave is considered three or more days in a row when the maximum temperature is 32°C (89.6°F) or more, according to HealthLink 小蓝视频. Thus this stretch isn't considered a heatwave.
Tips to stay safe
Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.
Rockfalls are also more prone to happen during higher temperatures, experts note. Plan your adventures accordingly.
