'Load shift' caused semi rollover that closed Highway 1 Monday

The highway is now fully re-opened

Crews prepare to remove a load of debris and a damaged truck following a rollover crash early Monday morning.

North Vancouver RCMP a blaming "load shift" for a semi-truck rollover that caused major traffic headaches for commuters Monday morning.

According to Const. Mansoor Sahak, the semi driver was carrying a load of large pallets westbound just before the Mountain Highway off-ramp when the truck tipped over.

No one was injured in the crash and Sahak said investigators don’t believe any criminality was involved.

“Speed was not a factor in this case and there appears to be no negligence, so at this point we're not looking at any charges,” he said.

For the first part of the commute Monday, the crash closed the right lane on Highway 1. Police later had to close all three westbound lanes, allowing crews to remove the truck and debris. That sent highway traffic backing up deep into Burnaby. The highway was fully re-opened by 8:45 a.m.
