As a local prodigy smashes records at the world junior hockey championship, some fans are calling for great honours to be bestowed upon the young player.

Goodbye, Burrard Inlet. Hello, Bedard Inlet.

That’s if an to rename (if only symbolically) the waterway gets enough traction.

“Show our support for hockey hero Connor Bedard (and by association, Canada’s junior hockey team as a whole) by calling Burrard Inlet (which borders his hometown of North Vancouver) the title Bedard Inlet,” reads the petition on change.org.

“While not an official name change, it will show our love of Connor Bedard’s hockey talent and his off-the-ice sterling personality.”

The petition was created by Gavin Bamber ahead of Thursday’s final against the Czech Republic. The game starts at 3 p.m. PT.

“Win or lose… go Canada go!”

On Monday, the 17-year-old became Canada’s career leader in both points and goals at the junior tournament. Bedard scored the overtime winner in a thrilling 4-3 quarterfinal win over Slovakia, earning Canada a place in the semifinals. Then Canada scored six unanswered goals on Tuesday to knock out the rival USA team in a 6-2 semifinal win.
