Two new wildfires burning near Whistler

A pair of small wildfires have ignited in the Whistler area in recent days, according to the СÀ¶ÊÓƵ Wildfire Service.

A pair of small wildfires have ignited near Whistler in recent days, according to the СÀ¶ÊÓƵ Wildfire Service.

One is burning southwest of the resort near Carol Creek in the Elaho Valley, close to where the Shovelnose Creek fire started last month.

The blaze is suspected to be lightning-caused and is about 0.009 hectares in size.

Another fire is burning southeast of Whistler on the Lillooet West FSR.

That fire is also suspected to be about 0.009 hectares, and its cause is under investigation.

Both fires are classified as out of control as of Tuesday morning.

With several days of lightning, and more in the forecast today, it's possible more new fires pop up in the days ahead. Residents should stay vigilant and keep their eyes open for new smoke columns. To report a wildfire, call 1-800-663-5555 toll-free or *5555 on a cell phone.
