The Vancouver Police Department is investigating two cases of deceased bodies found on the shores of two local beaches over two days.

The Vancouver Police Department said Tuesday (July 23) that it has secured identities for each of the two women whose bodies were discovered on two local beaches in recent days.

The two deaths appear to be unrelated, according to authorities.

On Sunday at around 10 a.m, the body of one woman was discovered at Sunset Beach, according to the (VPD).

A tent was set up at the scene while police investigated the site.

On Tuesday, investigators from VPD’s Major Crime Section positively identified the woman found on Sunset Beach. However, her cause of death remains unknown at this time. The VPD indicated it would not be releasing the deceased's name.

The body of a second woman was discovered around 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 22 on the shoreline near the Kitsilano Yacht Club. Her identity was determined later on Tuesday.

Out of respect for her, her family, friends, and loved ones, the VPD will not be sharing additional information about her identity or how she died, however, criminality is not suspected.

VPD spokesperson Sgt. Steve Addison said in a statement that the families of both deceased women have been informed.

“These deaths have shocked and unsettled the community and they have led to many questions that we are now beginning to answer,” added Addison. “These investigations are our highest priority and they will continue until we have every answer we need.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Vancouver Police Major Crime Section at 604-717-2500.
