In case you missed it, three Whistler-affiliated snowboarders recently saw action at the 2024 X Games and collected two pieces of hardware between them.
Mark McMorris became last year, and he's added even further to his lead with a 23rd medal in Aspen, Colo. This time, the colour was silver and the stage was men's slopestyle. Regina's "Closer" landed on multiple occasions a world-class run featuring consecutive backside 1620s that pushed his score as high as 96.00.
That's enough for triumph on a lot of days, but McMorris had to settle for second this time as Red Gerard put together one of the best performances of his life. The American (97.00) earned the first X Games gold of his career due to three spectacular efforts each punctuated by a massive backside 1800.
Norwegian contender Mons Roisland rounded out the top three (92.66).
"Proud of this kid! Amazing riding brother," said McMorris to Gerard on social media after the contest. "Massive congratulations, and happy birthday to [Mons Roisland] as well!"
Darcy Sharpe was unable to find his slopestyle groove and finished 10th (46.66), but the alum did rise to the occasion in knuckle huck for his fifth career X Games medal. With bronze around his neck, he stood on the podium next to victorious countryman Liam Brearley and runner-up Zeb Powell of the United States.
wound up fourth in her own snowboard knuckle huck outing behind Kokomo Murase of Japan, Germany's Annika Morgan and the USA's Egan Wint, in that order.
Baird also placed sixth in big air (36.00), one spot ahead of fellow Canadian Laurie Blouin (32.00). Murase blew the field away for gold (94.00), followed by compatriot Reira Iwabuchi with silver (75.00) and Anna Gasser of Austria who took bronze (71.00).
"So happy I got to compete in big air [at the X Games]," said Baird on Instagram. "Didn't land everything I wanted to, but had so much fun on this jump! Thank you Aspen 24."
