Video + Photos: The lights are shining again on Science World's iconic dome

The new lights are already illuminating the night sky.

On Thursday (Aug. 10), Science World unveiled its upgraded dome lights that dazzled the Vancouver night sky.

The new and improved lights of the iconic dome will shine every night from dusk to dawn.

The new lights were made possible due to  the organization received from the federal government back in October 2022.

"We are grateful the federal government has recognized the importance of our mission at Science World and provided funding for this project as well as other visitor and critical infrastructure improvements," said Tracy Redies, President and CEO of Science World in a recent news release.

The dome has been dark (on and off) since September 2022.

In December of last year, it was announced that the lights would be out indefinitely while they worked on fixing the infrastructure.

"From time to time [the dome] needs an internal technical touch-up to allow it to continue to shine brightly," a spokesperson for Science World

The new, upgraded lighting system uses 651 LED lights, three times as many lights as before.

"This state-of-the-art lighting system not only enhances capabilities but also boasts the latest LED technology," reads a recent press release.
