Squamish's Howe Sound Secondary to fundraise for courtyard revitalization

Howe Sound Secondary is fundraising to revitalize its courtyard for its students.

From April 21 to May 12, the to improve its courtyard. On the Eventbrite page, people have a chance to purchase specific items on the wishlist — such as outdoor games, tents, lighting furniture, plants and trees — or make a general donation of their own choosing.

“At Howe Sound Secondary we pride ourselves on creating a safe environment for students to truly be themselves, feel comfortable and connect with peers. As 90% of Squamish students will go to high school at HSS, the revitalization of the school’s courtyard is a must,” reads the fundraiser release.

“We want the students to be able to enjoy a beautiful space outside, covered from rain or sun and surrounded by plants to promote mental health and connection.”

The Eventbrite page says the goal is to reach $60,000, some of which they hope to receive through grants from the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation and the Squamish Youth Council. Additionally, all donations greater than $50 will receive a tax receipt.

According to the release, when completed, the courtyard would be available to rent by the public. Progress is already underway on the revitalization as well.

“So far, the painting of a mural is in progress and the garden beds have been prepped for planting.”
