Majority of Proline bettors predicted Chiefs' Super Bowl victory

The Kansas City Chiefs thrilling Super Bowl win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night was a popular one with Proline bettors.

The Chiefs earned a 25-22 overtime victory over the 49ers for their second straight NFL title and third in five years. Kansas City became the first team since New England in 2003-04 to win consecutive Super Bowl titles.

According to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp., 60 per cent of bettors had Kansas City winning while 67 per cent correctly picked the total over 46.5 points.

Among player prop bets, both Kansas City's Patrick Mahomes (70 per cent) and San Francisco's Brock Purdy (62 per cent ) went over their respective passing yards. Meanwhile Chiefs Travis Kelce (95 per cent), Isiah Pacheco (95 per cent) and Marquez Valdes-Scantling (99 per cent) along with 49ers Christian McCaffrey (98 per cent) and Kyle Juszczyk (99 per cent) all went over their respective receiving yards.

Mahomes (92 per cent) and San Francisco's Elijah Mitchell (95 per cent) both went over on their rushing yards. Also, 24 of bettors correctly predicted McCaffrey scoring the game's first touchdown (most popular choice in that market).

Just 18 per cent had Mahomes being named the game MVP. McCaffrey (31 per cent) and Kelce (19 per cent) were both more popular choices.

Also, 29 per cent of customers correctly predicted the game going to overtime while 65 per cent had the longest field goal being over 46.5 yards. And 60 per cent predicted the team that won the coin toss would also win the game

Among novelty bets, 51 per cent of bettors correctly predicted heads to win the coin toss. Others included:

- Ten per cent had purple as the colour of Gatorade (red/pink, orange and yellow/green/Lime were all more popular choices).

- Fifty-nine per cent had the U.S. national anthem Over 90.5 seconds.

- Ninety per cent had over 8.5 songs performed during the halftime show.

- Fifty-five per cent correctly predicted Taylor Swift wouldn't be shown during the national anthem while 88 per cent picked Travis Kelce not proposing to her following the game.

- Seventy-six per cent predicted Mahomes would be shown before Purdy and 76 per cent had Kelce being shown before McCaffrey during the national anthem.

A retail customer turned a $25 bet into a $2,470 payout with 49ers/draw (half time/full time) and Vancouver Canucks-Washington Capitals regulation draw (Canucks won 3-2 in overtime Sunday). A $50 bet turned into a $1,000 win for a digital customer who predicted Valdes-Scantling would score the Super Bowl's second touchdown.

Another won $1,100 from a $50 bet that San Francisco's Jauan Jennings would score the third touchdown of the game. Many bettors correctly picked the game going to overtime but one earned a $3,200 payout from a $200 wager.
