A celebration of all things French

Kerr's photographic work on display at Library Foyer Gallery

Elizabeth Kerrs photographic expos茅 Des Images de la France is a revelation of travel in the daily scene of pastoral life, village verve and cityscapes of France; a visual stimulation of all things French. Presenting a broad variety of subjects, its obvious that Kerr is inspired by people, old and young, as well as by geometrical shapes textures and vivid colours, nature and architecture.

Kerr's series of images, typically void of explicit portraits, evokes contemplative questions (such as: What just happened? or Who just sat there?) exploring new ways of observing the world.

I am fascinated by the juxtaposition of contrasts such as aloofness versus invitation, shadow and light, fragility and strength, old and new. These contrasting components hopefully lead to new perceptions and insight, Kerr says.

After doing photographic art for approximately 20 years, Kerr describes her practice:

My work has evolved from casual snapshots to more subtle abstract connections. My interest is in recording how colour, shape, textures, nature, people and architecture are interrelated and complimentary. The creative process for me involves looking very carefully through the camera lens to capture an image that resounds with the observer.

As well as photography, Kerr also has a passion for languages, music and culture of other countries and hopes to continue learning and exploring this digital medium in order to reflect new avenues of imagery. She rejoices, The exhilaration of learning through travel creates an intensity for life.
