A little too close to home

Robin Hood Director: Ridley Scott Cast: Russel Crowe, Cate Blanchett, Max von Sydow Rated: PG-13 Running time: 140 minutes

I sure do love blockbuster season. This time of year we can take a moment that lasts anywhere from 90 to 140 minutes and be transported to a world that is not our own.

Whether it be a space adventure, romance, comedy or fine action film - it doesn't get better than summer blockbuster season for Hollywood to produce a great piece of escape.

So it is we now have yet another expensive version of Robin Hood to call our own.

This is a fantastic tale of a make believe land where after coming to power by corrupt means, a lying bastard of a leader decides he is not quite rich enough so he chooses to impose a completely unfair tax on the most vulnerable in hard times.

Yeah right, "escape" my HST-taxed butt.

The story of Robin Hood has been done a hundred times and this round is pretty much the same only it looks at the time leading up to him living in the woods.

Russel Crowe is Robin, an archer in King Richard the Lionheart's army just as the King dies. So now he comes home to an England with a new, less than sympathetic, King.

In a word, this film is meh at best. If you're desperate for a bows and arrows flick that is an hour too long, or if you have a thing for Russel Crowe then fill your boots. But if you're looking for just a good action film go see Iron Man 2 instead.

Either way hurry before they have to charge HST.
