The Sea to Sky Singers are ditching their squeaky clean image for a lively evening of cabaret, aptly called Behavin' Badly. Choir director Veronica McPhee said she wanted to do music that was "a little bit fun."Out of that mission came a varied roster of songs ranging from country singer Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats," to the popular sea shanty "Drunken Sailor."There will also be some classical music thrown in the mix, but not necessarily what people have come to expect."Some people perceive classical music to be more stiff and serious," she said. "The pieces we've chosen are really fun upbeat numbers."Tying the wide-ranging music together is a lighthearted trouble-making theme."All of the songs have to do something with poking fun at mischief-makingjilted love, drinking, carousing," she said. There will be two Behavin' Badly concerts at two different venues. The Brackendale Art Gallery plays host to an adults-only performance Friday evening (May 9) at 7:30 p.m. and the Squamish Baptist Church is the venue for a family-friendly matinee Saturday (May 10) at 3 p.m.The gallery's cozy atmosphere is a natural fit for the playful show. McPhee said with a cash bar and the ability to mill about the room, the venue is refreshingly informal."It doesn't seem so contrived as some concerts might feel with the performers on the stage and the audience in their seats," she said, adding that people respond well to the live band Third Octave Down, led by piano accompanist Tim Shoults. The performers don't plan on being stiff either. "We don't have choreography per se but it's definitely more animated," McPhee said.Members will also look a bit spicier.Instead of the traditional choir vests members don at Christmas concerts, the choir will be outfitted in party wear. While the show has many fun and informal elements, it is still family-friendly."There's nothing too racy," McPhee laughed.Behavin' Badly takes place at the Brackendale Art Gallery on Friday (May 9) at 7:30 p.m. and at the Squamish Baptist Church on Saturday (May 10) at 3 p.m.Tickets are $12 and $10 for students or seniors. They are available at Billie's Bouquet, Mostly Books, Highland Video, Greyhound Depot and at the door.
