Animation for all ages

Megamind Director: Tom McGrath Cast: Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Jonah Hill Rated: PG Running time: 96 minutes

It's hard to put animated features in a category. In the end the most important distinction between any animated film is its adult versus child focus.

Is it for kids or their parents? Neither is necessarily bad; it just helps to prepare people.

So in that respect, I must warn all the parents going to see Megamind: prepare for a great time.

The plot involves the classic dynamic between heroes and villains and how one can't live without the other.

The story starts Superman-style with an infant rocketing towards Earth after its planet is destroyed. This time, however, there is another planet doing the same thing.

Whereas one baby (Metro Man voiced by Brad Pitt) lands in a wealthy home, the other baby lands in a prison.

Megaman (voiced by Will Farell) is the prison baby and since he doesn't fit in, he decides his purpose is to do bad so Metro Man can do good.

Then Megaman actually wins a battle and loses his mojo.

From there it's all about a villain figuring out what he wants to be when he grows up. The story isn't surprising, but it is good.

Now, although adults will like it, what right do I have to say what kids will think of it? None, I have no right whatsoever, so I decided to ask a four-year-old what they thought.

"I liked the baby. Baby. Baby. Baby. Baby."

So there is proof that kids will like it and that four-year-olds should probably not write movie reviews.
