Art and nature

Counsellors delve into the subconscious world

It's a bit like putting nature under the microscope.

On Thursday, Feb. 21, art therapist Sophie Brunet and counsellor Adrian Juric are coming together to explore what the natural world can teach people about transformations taking place in their lives. The workshop - "The Art and Nature of Inner Transformation: Exploring the Change Process in Your Life" - begins with a slide show. A group will explore images of the great outdoors and its many creatures by way of metaphor about the process of growth and renewal. Then it's to the drawing board.

"Art, regardless of the experience of the creator, reveals deep truths that come from the subconscious and carry messages for us, revealing new perspectives and insights," Brunet stated in an email.

For the past five years, Brunet has been contracted by the Squamish Nation to do art therapy in local schools. Juric has worked in both education and psychology for 18 years. He also leads wilderness-based retreats.

The workshop takes place at the Brackendale Art Gallery from 7 to 9:30 p.m. To register visit sophiebrunet.com or brackendaleartgallery.com.
