In front of an audience of more than 400 people, Daniels received the Best Actress Award at this year鈥檚 Theatre 小蓝视频 Mainstage, an annual provincial community theatre festival that showcases the best of 小蓝视频
The Squamish theatre company snagged some of the top awards up against seven regional zones and approximately 200 actors and stage crew members. While Daniels won Best Actress for her depiction of Amanda Wingfield in the Tennessee Williams play The Glass Menagerie, Sasha Law was nominated for Best Supporting Actress.聽
鈥淚t was pretty huge,鈥 Daniels said of the pinnacle event.聽
Between Shifts Theatre had a cast of four, with the entire production 鈥 lighting technician, back stage crew 鈥 made up of 15 people. One fellow production contender had a cast of 17, with an army of backup. Between Shifts Theatre鈥檚 little production of the classic made a big impact on the event held in Kamloops, Daniels said.聽
鈥淲e got a standing ovation.鈥
The play has helped place Squamish on the cultural map, she said. Since its performance, famous Canadian playwright and director Michael Armstrong has sent Daniels a script for a role he thought she might be interested in. Daniels has also received messages on Facebook from Lower Mainland theatre groups asking whether she would like to take up some acting jobs in Vancouver.聽
It was sad to wave goodbye to the eight-day festival, Daniels said. She鈥檇 been working on The Glass Menagerie for six months. Originally the play wasn鈥檛 nominated to attend the provincials. It won its spot at the event through a draw when a theatre group scheduled to take to the Sagebrush Theatre鈥檚 stage dropped out.聽
鈥淚 think it was meant to be,鈥 Daniels said. 鈥淲e were meant to go to show people that Squamish can do this type of stuff.鈥
