I have little doubt that this period of time will be looked upon as a golden age of entertainment. So in the big picture, it's hard to say whether Men in Black 3 is merely OK because there is no shortage of fantastic entertainment, whereas if everything were complete rubbish, this would be awesome.

MiB also has to deal with the gift/curse of an original success due in large part to novelty. This time out, Will Smith is a veteran special agent protecting the Earth from alien threats. Again, the buddy-cop comedy action formula follows the well-worn path. So how to keep it fresh for No. 3? Why, a time-travel plot, of course. I imagine after a morning of no ideas the writers simply said "screw it" while cracking a beer and flipping the coin, with "body swap" on the other side.

From there it writes itself, with Smith going back to the late '60s to team up with the younger Tommy Lee Jones, played by Josh Brolin. Brolin is actually very good but as with any good-guy film, it's nothing without the bad guy. Here we have a creepy '60s alien biker that looks like Tim Curry, but the biggest surprise of the film is that it's actually Jemaine Clement of Flight Of The Conchords.

In the end, this movie gets a pass because of the actors. It's brainless buddy action comedy and let's face it, when you see Tommy Lee Jones - all bad is forgiven.
