'Bondage' raises $5K for women's centre

Sold-out party features Big Bad Wolf, Snow White and other 'deviant' fairytale' characters

After 25 hours of being on his feet, Eric Armour was happy to finally get to bed.

"It was a busy day," the owner of the Second Avenue shop Trinity Romance said.

At 8 a.m. on Saturday (Feb. 11), Armour was helping transform the Howe Sound Inn and Brewing Co. into a haven for all things fairytale. Later that evening when the doors opened to the eighth annual James Bondage fetish-themed fundraiser party for the Howe Sound Women's Centre, Armour was on stilts welcoming guests.

"My back hurt the next day," he admitted.

With everyone from the Big Bad Wolf to Snow White in attendance, the "deviant fairytale" night sold out. Party-goers came from throughout the Sea to Sky Corridor, with one ticket holder flying in from Ontario for a four-day stint focusing on the big night, Armour said. By 4 a.m., the event had raised approximately $5,000 for the women's centre.

"It was a blast," Armour said.

The centre sees more than 3,000 women through its doors every year, executive director Sheila Allen told The Chief. The money will go toward the women's centre's drop-in service in Squamish. It pays for gift cards, food top-ups and other resources the centre's clients might need.
