Locals are getting a sweet treat this summer season as Downtown Squamish Business Improvement Association (DSBIA) presents Theatre in the Park with a cinematic presentation of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory Monday (June 29) at 9 p.m. in UnPavillion Park on Cleveland.
"As Squamish's young students eagerly count off the days to summer vacation, they can also look forward to this whimsical movie that characterizes Willy Wonka and his well-choreographed Oompa Loompas," states a DSBIA news release.
Based on Roald Dahl's classic novel that tickled the imagination of generations of children, the event hopes to be a memorable one for Squamish residents.
"It'll be a nice little treat for the younger kids because they'll get to stay up with their friends and watch the movie under the stars - and right in the middle of downtown at that," said Cinci Csere, DSBIA executive director, who co-ordinated the event.
"Theatre in the Park will be a good way to kick off the summer, and a delicious way to have them anticipating for the other exciting summer events we have planned."
The presentation of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is the first of many such community-building endeavours planned this summer by the DSBIA to allow residents to truly enjoy and appreciate the local amenities flush throughout downtown.
The park will be the setting for this premiere event, and organizers say they hope the event will bring more people to the park this summer - increasing it's profile as one of downtown's hidden treasures.
The DSBIA was established in 2006 and is a formally structured business zone modeled on successful BIAs throughout North America.
According to the release, the group is the collective voice of downtown businesses working together to establish the area as a unique destination attraction and source of community pride through the creation of improvement and beautification projects, and entertainment, sports and cultural activities.
