Squamish Helping Hands Society (SHHS) is hosting an extraordinary fundraiser on March 5. Crave: Dining for Dignity is a first-time event that aims to raise awareness about homelessness and food access issues in Squamish while featuring the culinary artistry of 12 local chefs, paired with some of 小蓝视频s finest wines.
There has never been an event like Crave in Squamish, said Nancy Hamilton, organizer and Helping Hands board member. We wanted to focus on food and issues around healthy, accessible meals. And who better to showcase this than our own very talented local chefs who have been working with local farmers and suppliers to create mouthwatering creations.
Pairing these culinary delights with 小蓝视频 wines will really make this evening unforgettable.
Twelve chef stations and their wine and beer pairings will greet patrons on a gastronomic exploration at the West Coast Railway Heritage Parks CN Roundhouse and Conference Centre. Further enhancing the evening will be live art, music and theatre set against an urban streetscape theme.
The Crave organizing committee was intent on a dynamic fundraiser and after a brainstorming session in November, the idea for Crave was born. SHHS executive director Maureen Mackell said the name Crave was appropriate as it implies craving nutrition and also relates to food security.
The whole idea is to bring it back to the Helping Hands aspect of it making sure people are fed, that no one has to worry about where they are getting their next meal, she said. So this was a nice marriage of ideas.
Squamish Helping Hands Society is raising money for capital projects, including enhancing the societys food distribution program and developing a fund for a permanent home that can better serve Squamishs homeless and marginalized population.
Its for a good cause, Mackell said. To raise funds in a creative, fun way makes sense for us. We get an amazing amount of support from this community.
Aiming to make Crave an annual event, the committee is eager to see it expand and continue to promote its local flavour element and unique identity.
This is not the standard cookie-cutter Squamish fundraiser, said committee member Gregg Van Hierdan, explaining that organizers wanted to create a classy event that is open to everyone who appreciates good food and wine.
Many fundraisers include silent and live auctions after you open your wallet for tickets, so you are constantly paying, said Hamilton. But at Crave it will be different.
Once you get in the door, you are wined and dined and entertained, all night. Were more about entertaining and promoting the local restaurants, chefs and the wines, she said.
Van Hierdan said recognition is owed to the chefs contributions to the fundraiser. Every participant is donating their time and materials to the event, he said.
Hamilton added her praise to the chefs. These guys are like the athletes in the Olympics. They are the main event, she said.
Crave: Dining for Dignity is a formal event and tickets are $100. A $50 charitable donation receipt will be provided at the door. A Safe Ride Home is also included with the ticket. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the entertainment, food and wine will continue to 11 p.m. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are available at the ReMax realty office, Helping Hands Society and participating restaurants.
