-the Onion.comSo where were we? Oh yes, were at the second half of the seventh and final movie of this mega humongous franchise. Judging by the weekend box office, most of the country has already seen this film so that takes some of the heat off me.The film starts pretty much the exact moment the first one ended. Remember part one? Two hours of packing in as many people staring into the distance as possible. Oh, and lets not forget the pining, the prolonged romance and the side plots that did nothing to move things forward. Thankfully that rubbish was all packed into the first film and like all Potter movies the second half is the action. It certainly doesnt take long for the ominous tone to fade to lots of running, fighting and the tying of loose ends. It pretty much doesnt hold back until Harry and Voldermort have their inevitable, final showdown.Fans will see it and no doubt enjoy it regardless. However, those looking for just a big summer fantasy action flick might be happy as well. Theres a Lord of the Rings-type siege and lots of wandery (if its not a word yet, it will be). Personally, Im a little upset because I didnt read the books and thought for sure a certain character was going to die. Even so, its hard not to be impressed with the Potter phenomenon and to respect that it had become an important part of many lives for over a decade.
