The Howe Sound Brew Pub's unofficial house band, the Riverbed Trio, becomes the unofficial house performer Sept. 11 as lead singer Jes Kahili (known as Jes Beaulac in Squamish) plays a solo gig of his signature psychedelic rock.
A musician from an early age, Kahili was already tickling the ivories by the age of 10 before moving on to the guitar.
At 19 Kahili was playing festivals in Los Angeles and working on his first album with producers there and in Toronto.
He's currently working on his second album with producer Robin DiMaggio, a world renowned drummer and percussionist who has toured with, among others, Paul Simon, David Bowie, Diana Ross, Slash, Johnny Cash, Ravi Shankar and violin maestro L. Shankar.
Kahili's original compositions, although influenced by 70s icons like Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, owe as much to modern electronica music, as well.
His band, the Riverbed Trio already impressed Lavera Rempel, assistant general manager at the Brew Pub enough that she made them the "unofficial house band".
When speaking to The Chief about the band and his solo gigs in July, Kahili said it wasn't always easy to get gigs when you play original music.
"A lot of places just want cover bands," he said. "There is always a heckler shouting out for Led Zeppelin or CCR."
Catch the original psychedelic rock of Jes Kahili at the Howe Sound Brew Pub on Saturday Sept. 11.
