Festival gets even wilder

Wild at Adventure appeals to lovers of the great outdoors with speakers and adrenaline-fuelled films

The Wild at Art Festival just got wilder with the addition of Wild at Adventure, an outdoor adventure-focused film and speaker extravaganza.

The event takes place at the Eagle Eye Theatre March 6 and 7 with presentations by extreme skier Greg Hill and alpinist Jeremy Frimer, and a showcase of the wildest adrenaline-fuelled mountain films from the 2009 Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival -and so much more.

Wild at Adventure is presented by the Squamish Mountain Festival and organized by local filmmaker, Ivan Hughes. It marks a new approach to year-round programming for the Squamish Mountain Festival.

"Squamish has such an eclectic mix of artists and adventurers, it seemed like a natural fit to combine the two in one festival," says Hughes.

Audiences can also catch an exhibit by adventure photographer Rich Wheater whose inspiring images depicting action sports, mountain lifestyle, fashion, and nature continually thrill and compel viewers.

A silent auction of mountain adventure gear and equipment will also tantalize crowds while benefitting the Grand Wall Bouldering Co-op. And to further entertain the masses, live music will be performed in the lobby of the Eagle Eye Theatre before the shows and during the intermissions.

"Wild at Adventure showcases the wildest 小蓝视频 and local adventurers, photographers and musicians all under one roof. It should be a really inspiring evening, and a lot of fun," said Hughes.

The excitement begins Friday, March 6 with extreme skier Greg Hill, a modern day explorer who skins his way into the unknown.

Hill has skied in Alaska, New Zealand, Europe and all over North America but is mostly found exploring his home range - the Colombia mountains. He lives in Revelstoke, and has been pushing the backcountry boundaries ever since he moved there in 2000. With limitless mountains at his disposal Hill is always searching for a new line, or a new peak he has not skied before.

The adventure continues Saturday, March 7 with a presentation by alpinist Jeremy Frimer, an elite alpine climber. Frimer's 12-year alpine career has taken him on 13 expeditions to the world's greatest ranges. He is responsible for establishing significant new alpine routes in the greater ranges of the world and publishing articles about them in top-tier alpine journals and magazines.

Wild at Adventure is presented by the Squamish Mountain Festival in conjunction with Wild at Art and is sponsored by Arc'teryx and the Whistler Brewing Company.

Tickets are $15 and are available online at www.wildatart.ca, Valhalla Pure, Climb On and the Squamish Adventure Centre.
