Ghoulish grooves and batty bashes abound

Grown-ups have all the fun this Halloween weekend

Everyone knows Halloween isn't just for kids, and dressing up in crazy or scary costumes can be fun for all ages.

Luckily, the Squamish community embraces Halloween every year, offering a number of good opportunities for the young at heart to don a cool costume and treat themselves to a night out.

On Friday (Oct. 29) choose your side at Bloodlust: Vampire Vs Slayer, a Bass Coast Halloween party at Sea to Sky Stables.

The party takes place in a teepee, and it is outside, so dress for the weather and you should probably avoid high heeled shoes.

To give you an idea of what to expect, the event's publicity asks, "Have you ever danced inside a giant teepee while puppets are beatboxing? Have you had a conversation with a talking bush and a unicorn that can walk on fire?"

Go to basscoastproject.com for more info or to buy tickets.

Also on Friday, The Oceanport Hotel hosts Hevy's Dead and Famous Halloween featuring the DJ talents of Freddie K, Christopher Robin, Heatscore, and M.y.o.

Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door, and the Halloween party gets underway at 9 p.m.

Go to oceanporthotel.com for more info.

On Saturday (Oct. 30), The Howe Sound Brew Pub hosts its own Halloween party with DJ pitchNputt, a wicked costume contest with prizes, plus special guests.

The party kicks off at 9 p.m. and best of all, there's no cover charge!

But get there early, as the event is usually filled to capacity by 11 p.m.

The Cliffside Pub is also party-central on Saturday with its annual Haunted Halloween Bash.

It seems the crew from Short Circuit and the Cliffside Pub have teamed up for another spooky night of DJs, dancing and daring costumes.

The event features DJs Yama and Craig-E, a costume contest, prizes, a wicked sound system with dancing until 2 a.m. - with no cover.

Saturday is also the night that the Brackendale Art Gallery (BAG) features live music from the Paperboys as part of its Halloween Dance.

The popular, Vancouver-based band offers a multicultural m茅lange of folk/rock melodies while its players cover a range of musical backgrounds from bluegrass to funk to traditional Scots and Irish music.

Everyone is encouraged to dress up, of course, so make sure to wear your wackiest costume.

Tickets are $20 at the BAG or at the Bookshelf in downtown Squamish.

The show starts at 8 p.m.

And remember if you're going out partying, make sure to have a designated driver and have a Happy Halloween.
