The charismatic, buff athletes that form the All Star Wrestling (ASW) show are back to battle for a good cause.
The grapplers make their third appearance at Totem Hall for the aptly named Sea To Sky Mayem, and continue the tradition of sharing a portion of the proceeds with their host, this year benefiting youth recreation programs.
"We have always done it as a fundraiser, the kids who come out really enjoy it," said promoter Mark Vellios.
And the more interest there is in the event, the more the programs will earn. That's because between 20 and 30 per cent of the gross revenue goes to Totem Hall, depending on how many tickets are sold.
"All Star Wrestling assumes all financial risks in bringing these shows to town," said Vellios. "Our break even point is around 150 to 200 people depending on what we spend in newspaper and radio ads."
As always, All Star Wrestlers put on a display suitable for the whole family.
"You won't hear any swearing or be worried about seeing women with their clothes falling off at our events," said Vellios.
On Friday (Sept. 18), starting at 8 p.m., wrestling fans will greet some familiar faces along with a few new ones, who are sure to be favourites.
The Kelownafornians take to the ring for the ASW Tag Team Championship against former champs Team Japanada.
Kelownafornians Collin Cutler and Adam Fedyk won the tag title on Aug. 28 in Kelowna from Team Japanada's Seth Knight and The Great Kasaki. This will be the first rematch between the rival teams.
Next is the PWA 小蓝视频 Championship with champion "Prince Of Power," aka Lak Siddartha, versus Johnny Obsession.
"PWA is based out of Ontario and Lak Siddartha is their 小蓝视频 Champion," said Vellios. "Johnny is one of the highest rated heavyweights in All Star Wrestling and is managed by All Star Wrestling Legend, 'Vicious' Verne Siebert."
An old rivalry is reignited in a grudge match between "Golden Lion" Gurv Sihra and "The Ideal Reflection" Christopher Ryseck - who was just featured on the MTV show MADE.
"Both men are on the ladder up the ASW rankings and a win will help one of them get into title shot contention," said Vellios.
A bonus special event is next between The Panama Wasp and "Mayor" Austin Spencer.
"Children love the Panama Wasp," said Vellios. "He tries his best to put a smile on every kid's face."
And finally, an open contest pits Big Bad Chad against The Mighty Iton.
The action starts at 8 p.m. Friday (Sept. 18) at Totem Hall. Admission is $15 for the front row and $12 for general admission, and $10 for kids under 12.
