In this life there are really only two things for certain: One, you probably have not yet seen the movie History of Future Folk. Two, If you do not enjoy this movie, you have no soul.
It doesn't get more sweet and silly awesome than this. my friends. For those of you unaware, this movie is billed as the best alien-folk-duo sci-fi-action-romance-comedy movie ever made. And dare I say they are right.
The film opens with a dad telling his daughter the story of the planet Hondo that was going to be demolished by an asteroid. They sent a man to find a habitable planet and remove the existing population with a virus. Seconds before he's to unleash the virus, he hears music for the first time and everything changes.
Next thing you know, he's playing indie-folk-bluegrass in Brooklyn until the day when another Hondoian is sent to deal with him. Enter Kevin, played by Jay Klaitz. For some reason it is absolutely impossible not to smile and have a good time whenever this man is on the screen - he's like a folk Jack Black without any of the annoying bits.
This movie will rightly enjoy some comparisons to Flight of the Concords, but it clearly stands on its own as a low-budget indie film with more than enough heart and originality to make up for money.
The History of Future Folk is currently streaming on Netflix for your immediate enjoyment Hondo.
