The Howe Sound Performing Arts Association (HSPAA) is scheduled to showcase high calibre talent during the upcoming season.

On Sunday Nov.15, the association presents the Spirit of Squamish with the father-daughter duo Norman and Maria Foote, at St. John's Anglican Church in an effort to raise funds for the Access to Music Education (AME) fund.

"That's a fund we gather up from year to year and disperse the funds to students who may not otherwise be able to afford music education," said Aaron Purdie, HSPAA director.

According to Purdie, the annual fundraiser usually headlines acts that aren't so close to home (the Footes raised their children in Squamish) But the duo is just too entertaining to pass up.

"Norm is an amazing children's entertainer. He's a puppeteer, a composer, a singer a dancer. He's just fantastic. He's a blast for kids and we're really looking forward to that."

The Juno-award winning dad is best known for his recordings One Thousand Pennies, Lets Sing a Song, and The Progress of Man, as well as his work with Disney Records, Shari Lewis and C小蓝视频's Scoop and Doozie TV show.

The Spirit of Squamish performance will also showcase the talent of many local music students and teachers.

"It's going to be a fantastic family event," Purdie added.

The performance starts at 3 p.m. on Sunday Nov.15 and admission is by donation.

On Dec. 19, the HSPAA will showcase Chor Leoni in Yuletide Fire at the Eagle Eye Theatre. Squamish-born Chor Leoni vocalist Rob McAlister will perform in his hometown under the direction of Diane Loomer.

"This choir is absolutely fantastic. It's great for beginner choral listeners because they have a very smooth, gentle sound. They do a great mix of classic favourites as well as some more complex choral music," Purdie said.

Chor Leoni has performed in town several times in the past few years, and Purdie says the performance always draws a large number of attendees.

"[Chor Leoni] always draws a huge crowd because our ticket prices are $8 less than Vancouver, so we actually draw some Vancouver crowds to Squamish as well."

Admission to the Chor Leoni show costs $20 and tickets can be purchased at Billie's Bouquet, The Bookshelf and at the Squamish Adventure Centre.
