Just one more apocalypse

The Book of Eli Director: Albert and Allen Hughes Cast: Denzel Washington, Mila Kunis, Gary Oldman Rated: 14A Running time: 118 minutes

Fed up with post-apocalyptic movies yet? No? Well then here's another one to heap upon the seemingly endless pile that started with Mad Max.

Yes, it's all here: the broken bridges, endless stretches of road and roving bands of cannibals and rapists. Plus it's shot in that brown and white style that is so popular with today's post-apocalyptic films.

So, what makes this one stand apart? Well, very little. What it does have is the credibility that rightly follows Gary Oldman, and to a lesser extent, Denzel Washington.

However Mila Kunis must have made another deal with the devil because the talent-less bitchy girl from That 70s Show landed a role in this playing well the same talent-less bitchy girl. Calls for the casting directors head are only called off due to the brief appearance from Tom Waits.

The plot is pretty much a mix of old Clint Eastwood westerns with an apocalypse feel.

Denzel is the nameless hero who carries the last copy of the bible hoping it will save the world and kills pretty much anything that touches him. Don't be mistaken - this is not an action movie as those sequences are few and far between.

In good conscious I can't recommend this film unless you have to choose between this and or The Chipmunks.

Personally I recommend waiting for the sequel, which is set just after history repeats itself and the bible is once again used to commit countless atrocities and wars.

It is then, Denzel has to travel the land looking for the only book that can truly save the world: Douglas Adams's Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.
