The organizers of the Squamish Equinox Rock Festival (SERF) are launching a six-part monthly indoor concert series next week leading up to the festival at the Squamish oceanfront in June.
Award-winning musician Kuba Oms, as well as the Volume Collective (formerly the Jamatonics) are set to perform at a multi-level party on Saturday, Jan. 22 at The Rock Bar and Grill at Chances Boardwalk. The event will also feature five DJs from Squamish and Whistler in an event that will serve as a fundraiser for the SERF outdoor event, scheduled on June 25 at the Squamish oceanfront.
"The premise behind our concert series is two-fold," SERF president Paul Hudson said in a statement issued on Monday (Jan. 10). "First off, it brings live music culture to our town regularly, which is really exciting.
"Secondly (and more pragmatically), SERF is a community-oriented festival and our goal has always been to keep our ticket prices affordable for locals while also engaging the community when it comes to financial support.
"We are the lowest price [festival] you will find in the province. To continue with affordable pricing, our concert series will serve as a fundraiser for the festival itself."
Future concert series acts include the East Vancouver hipsters Blackberry Wood, the Latin funk grooves of Victoria's Santa Lucia and Newfoundland's ska-circus The Idlers. Local bands also scheduled to perform during the series included Tommy Honest and the Liars, Quest University's collective Fogon and blues rocker Shone.
Tickets for the Jan. 22 event cost $10 and are available at Trinity Romance.
