Story:
An end to hunger, poverty and consumer waste, clean drinking water for everyone yes, the world needs many, many things. However what it certainly doesn't need (but what it seems to keep getting) are soon-to-be-forgotten films with Bruce Willis playing a cop.
Not just any cop, but a scruffy, only-man-who-can-get-the-job-done cop with an attitude and superhuman endurance.
Yes, you've seen the story before, so Hollywood is hoping you won't expect much and see it again. This time the movie is called Surrogates.
The opening credits sum up the story thus far. The world is similar to ours, only everyone now has the opportunity to use robotic surrogates. Basically you sit at home plugged into your robot, which goes about interacting.
Kind of like taking Sims or World of Warcraft games to a whole other level. Or as many would say, the natural next step. About 98 per cent of the population uses them for everything and because of that, crime and disease have plummeted. Until (ominous music).
Wouldn't you know it, something goes wrong and the first homicide in years begins an investigation into sinister doings.
Yawn. Sorry, although a promising premise, this movie is pretty dull. Bruce goes from one clue to the next with very little creativity or intelligence. There was even a slight hope of it being so bad it's good. Sadly, that was not the case. Rent it if you must, but avoid it if you can.
Lastly, I wanted to sneak in a quick (gosh, shucks) thanks for voting me The Chief Reader's Choice for best writer (insert curtsey here). I'm honoured, thanks.
