Artists inspired by the natural world, local industry or cultural heritage are invited to submit their creative work to the Squamish Arts Council (SAC) for an upcoming exhibit entitled, The Squamish Project.
The Squamish Project will be showcased at the Squamish Arts Council Building on Cleveland Avenue and at the SAC Artisan Galleries on Main Street under three categories: Into the Woods, Industrial Strength II and Cultural Fusion.
The exhibit opens Saturday Feb. 13 and will showcase the creative work for up to three months, depending on the venue.
Submissions for Into the Woods should be inspired by flora or fauna but the organizing committee is especially interested in art focusing on plant and animal themes including trees, the nest, and creative, three-dimensional interpretations of the bear. This category welcomes artwork in any medium.
The Industrial Strength II category will showcase photography from serious or amateur photographers depicting Sea to Sky industries. The images can illustrate a full spectrum of aspects surrounding local industry including but not limited to the negative and positive impacts of industry.
The photos can be either current or historical in nature. Industrial Strength II submissions will be juried and selected photos will be displayed, unframed on a minimum of 16 by 20 inch backing.
Amateur and professional photographers are also invited to submit images depicting the unique cultural heritage of the municipality, including photos reflecting the local arts and recreation community.
A maximum of four images can be submitted for consideration in each category of The Squamish Project, no later than Tuesday (Jan.19). Artists are required to submit an image inventory list with each piece that includes a title, size, medium, date and price or insured value of the artwork as well as contact information for the artist.
