Love is in the air

Entertainment

The Sea to Sky Singers Director Veronica McPhee has chosen a selection of songs of love and friendship to celebrate the arrival of spring. The ensemble will perform madrigals, folksongs and contemporary music depicting the pleasure and pain of love.

"Some of them are the lighter side of lost love," she said. "The Canadian folk song is a light-hearted, funny story about the girl who took everything and left you with nothing."

While Tim Shoults accompanies the ensemble on piano, the performance will also feature Erik Musseau playing solo piano pieces. Musseau is leaving Squamish and McPhee decided the show would be an ideal time to highlight his talent and give him a warm sendoff.

The first show on Saturday, May 7 will include solos and duets by choir members. And audiences will get their money's worth during an encore presentation Saturday May 14 when they'll be joined by the Richmond Singers. The two choirs will take turns performing, back and forth, three songs in a set. The show will be held at the Squamish Baptist Church at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for seniors and students and are available at the door or at Mostly Books, Billie's Bouquet and Highland Video.
