'LoveCoast' to kick off concert series

Sweeney, Verbeek to perform in support of music education

The musical stylings of local duo LoveCoast will kick off a series of concerts designed to raise money for a program aiming to help aspiring young musicians in the Sea to Sky Corridor achieve success.

LoveCoast -made up of vocalist Danielle Sweeney and guitarist Scott Verbeek -will play the first in the series of Coffee Concerts this Saturday (Nov. 2) at 3:30 p.m. at the Squamish Academy of Music, 38121 Second Ave.

The 30-minute concerts, set to take place on the first Saturday of each month until June 2014, will feature a variety of professional musicians. Sweeney, who has a diploma in jazz studies from Vancouver Island University, and Verbeek, a recent graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston, were both raised in Squamish.

The series is a benefit for Access Music Education (AME), a local award developed to provide funding to local music, dance, and theatre students, with money distributed annually to students in the Sea to Sky Corridor.

Admission is by donation to AME. For a full list of Coffee Concerts for the 2013-'14 season, visit www.squamishacademyofmusic.com. For more information on Access Music Education, visit howesoundarts.ca.
