Performer: Ueli Liechti

Charity: West Coast Railway Heritage Park

And now for something completely differentUeli Liechti will be playing the Alphorn while dressed in the traditional attire of the Guatemalan mountain tribespeople from an area called Todos Santos.

"The men might think I'm cross-dressing but the women are gonna like it," says Liechti, who has traveled to Guatemala several times on behalf of the Squamish Rotary Club and Adopt-a-Village to build roads and services to the indigenous people of the South American country.

Liechti, who was born and raised in Switzerland, will be bringing his European heritage to centre stage to play the Alphorn, which he has been playing for nearly five years.

"I've always wanted to play it here in the mountains because they're just like the Alps in Switzerland," he said. "I just bought a horn and decided to start playing it."

Liechti's performance will be a tribute to a couple of fallen friends, Jim Harley and Ken Mason, who were both railroaders by heart.

He has chosen the West Coast Railway Heritage Park as his charity because of the historical importance the railroad has in our car-crazed society.

"I feel passenger train travel is important," said Liechti, who also grew up near a train station. "We need to show our children that mode of transportation."
