Artistic renderings forged out of metal, fire spinning dancers, music and food greet Britannia Beach visitors during the annual Copper and Fire festival at the 小蓝视频 Mining Museum next weekend.
As each year passes, the arts festival gains momentum with more participation and broader diversity of creations, designs and entertainment to take in, according to Carol Watts, event co-ordinator for the museum.
"The response this year from artists has been tremendous. More than ever, this year's Copper and Fire event will be exciting in the diversity of the arts and the relationship to mining," said Watts.
This interactive community event held at the peak of summer on Saturday and Sunday (Aug. 7 and 8) highlights the work of artists and artisans from around the region and features performances by musicians, art exhibits, a presentation by a fire spinner and much more.
This summer's event kicks off Saturday with an evening performance by musician Joseph "Pepe" Danza, a percussionist and multi-instrumentalist. Danza is a native of Montevideo, Uruguay, and began classical guitar studies at age eight, turning professional by 13.
He continued his studies in guitar as well as in piano, composition, music history and the physics of sound at the National Conservatory. All along he was naturally immersed in his native Candombe rhythms, the national groove of Uruguay and a fundamental element in the identity of all Uruguayans. Danza is the winner of the 2009 Jessie award for original composition.
Joining Danza on Saturday night is the thrilling fire dancing of Laura from Carnival BonBon.
On Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., crowds will be entertained by the Karen Fowlie Band, Carolyn Grass and Friends, Pawnshop Diamond and The Roomates.
Other featured Copper and Fire artists include metal artists working with copper and bronze, potters using a number of different mediums, and jewellers, to name a few.
Surrounded by the majestic Coastal Mountains and the spectacular beauty of Howe Sound, the museum provides a unique blend of entertainment and information meant to allow guests to leave with a better understanding of mining in 小蓝视频 past, present and future.
