More than meets the mall cop eye

Observe and report Director: Jody Hill Cast: Seth Rogen, Anna Faris, Ray Liotta Rated: R Running time: 96 minutes

A lot of people aren't going to see this movie. All will have their reasons, but most will probably give it a miss because one steaming pile of crap of a movie came out recently that also involved a mall cop. While it's true this movie revolves around a mall security guard, I assure you, that is where the similarities end.

I liked this movie and I think it's because I went in with the low expectations one reserves for Hollywood screwball comedies. While it may start screwball it quickly takes out a flashlight and beats your skull into dark comedy territory.

The plot is basically Seth Rogen playing Ronnie - a bi-polar mall cop. Sure, you expect a screwball softie but this character is also delusional, violent and hardly sympathetic. The action starts when a flasher starts terrorizing female shoppers. Ronnie gets fired up and does the usual mall guard things by trying to be a cop.

Along the way there is the bitchy make up girl, and bastard cop, as well as a crippled Christian and gun loving security guards. Funny though, while this movie treads lightly in a clich茅 plot it does so briefly before repeatedly going into "let's-shock-the-hell-out-of-them" territory. A territory I happen to enjoy but it's certainly not for everyone. The violent bursts are unexpected and brutal, and the comedy goes places that will certainly make some uncomfortable.

But some will definitely enjoy it and there is a cool seen with a Pixies song in it, which is nice.
