Squamish’s Sea to Sky Singers will mark the 100th anniversary of Squamish’s renaming next week with a selection of tunes that celebrates the beauty and majesty of the community and its surroundings.
On May 3 and 4, the local adult choral group is presenting “My Squamish Home,” featuring music by СƵ-based composers including Squamish’s own Joanna Schwarz.
“This concert highlights the beauty and history of our own little piece of paradise,” organizers said in a statement. “Mountains and miners, forest and loggers (and everything in between) have shaped the people of this unique place.”
Other СƵ-based composers whose music is to be featured include Stephen Chatman, Larry Nickel and Dave Baker. The performances, led by Sea to Sky Singers music director Veronica McPhee and assistant director Aaron Purdie and featuring accompanist Colleen Koop, take place Saturday, May 3 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 4, at 2 p.m. at St. John the Divine Anglican Church, 1930 Diamond Road.
