Pacific Rim a smashing good time

So it's been almost a year since our movie theatre shut down and many -myself included - are still upset by this. However, as with everything in life, there are bright sides. For one, I didn't have to see the last Twilight movie.

So it's been almost a year since our movie theatre shut down and many -myself included - are still upset by this. However, as with everything in life, there are bright sides. For one, I didn't have to see the last Twilight movie. Also, summer blockbuster movies get released on DVD just in time for rainy-day viewing season.

And if the size of the stars is anything to judge a movie by, the biggest film of the summer was easily Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim. Yes, the man behind Pans Labyrinth and the Hellboy movies got his hands on some big money for his first blockbuster and it is appropriately ginormous.

The film opens 20 years from today when a rift in the ocean is unleashing Godzilla-esque monsters on Earth. Naturally, the world bands together to make giant man-controlled robots to beat the snot out of them. If the giggling boy in you just peed a little, you will absolutely love this movie.

The actors are certainly secondary in this exercise as they move along what little story there is, until we get more robot and monster smashing. Notable exceptions are Ron Perlman and Charlie Day. Actually, Charlie (It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia) Day is one of those actors who always makes things better, especially when he's having a bad day - classic Charlie.

Pacific Rim has just been released on DVD and therefore everywhere online. I recommend watching it on the biggest screen you can. Enjoy.
