The Sea to Sky highway passes through some of the most beautiful country in the world - and artist Barrie Chadwick has managed to capture this beauty throughout a collection of 20 acrylic paintings.
Chadwick's collection will be on display at the Newport Gallery on Cleveland Avenue starting next Friday (June 25). The artist will be on hand that evening to share his vision and thoughts behind each of the paintings.
"In my landscapes and seascapes, I have tried to capture the beauty of the scenes along the Sea to Sky highway," said Chadwick.
Originally from Australia, Chadwick has been living in Canada since 1965, and has become enchanted with the West Coast of British Columbia.
"There's so much beauty here," he said. "It's such an impressive area."
The exhibition is titled "The Road to 2010" because many of the paintings are landscapes taken from landmark locations along Hwy. 99. There are scenes from the logging industry, as well as paintings which include the Stawamus Chief, the Squamish Estuary, the Tantalus Range, Pemberton farmhouses and many other landscapes that characterize the natural beauty of the area.
"It should be a great interest to local people and tourists as well," he said.
His work is instantly recognizable as a distinctive palette, with strong lighting and shade effects. He is currently working on a book illustrating his paintings from East Coast Australia and West Coast Canada.
The exhibition runs from June 25 until July 29, with proceeds of the sale of his paintings going towards the Squamish Music and Art (SMART) Exchange.
